Going Deeper: Grief, Practice, and the Quiet Wisdom of the Chakras
Some of you know that I experienced a deep loss last fall when my father passed. The months that followed were filled with family, logistics, memories, and the tender work of preparing to celebrate his life—including a “Send‑off at Sea.”
My dad grew up in San Francisco and spent most of his life on the water, beginning with the Sea Scouts. When we boarded the Mathew Turner and sailed just past the Golden Gate Bridge, the weather was perfect—one of those rare, Bay days when the wind, sea, and sky seem to speak the same language. It was bittersweet, of course. But mostly, I felt gratitude. Gratitude that he lived doing what he loved. Gratitude for the peace that sailing always brings. Gratitude for the beauty that held us as gently we said goodbye.
Grief is not linear. It rises and falls, often with more downs than ups. But I’ve been striving to meet it as a teacher—one who invites me to grow, soften, and see more clearly. Journaling has been a steady companion, helping me stay grounded … or return to grounding when things feel out of whack.
And working with the chakras has helped me navigate some of the most challenging emotional terrain I’ve ever known.
As I’ve gone deeper into my own inner landscape, it’s become clear that this is exactly the direction I want to continue offering in my teaching: practices that are meaningful, embodied, and supportive of real life.
That’s why the next series in my Going Deeper workshops is devoted entirely to the chakras. Each session is designed to help you explore these subtle energy centers in a grounded, accessible way—through gentle yoga, guided meditation, affirmations, and simple tools you can bring into your daily life.
No matter where you are on the journey, I encourage you to enjoy time with your loved ones, appreciate every moment, and invest in your health and well-being.
Blessings to you and yours,
Sandi Russi, E-RYT, RScP
